about
This song was inspired by a documentary by Adam Curtis called ‘Century of the Self’ where he suggests that because there is no solution to our current systemic problems human beings often feel helpless and simply carry on saying “oh dear”. I was listening to a lot of Nick Drake at the time (2014) which inspired the finger picking style of this particular song.
lyrics
Verse 1
in a crowded place would you come and save me
with the warm embrace of your smile
Verse 2
In a timeless place is there really any meaning
to a futile race of quantitative easing, oh dear
Chorus
cos a life questioning life
is only wasted time
and in this myriad of things I really can explain
it doesn't feel right
Verse 3
In a hopeless place is there any room for dreaming
of a better place and something to believe in, oh dear
Chorus
cos a life questioning life
is only wasted time
and in this myriad of things I really can explain
it doesn't feel right
